Heimdall has faithfully chugged along for years collecting bandwidth stats. As our most underpowered server, it has recieved the fanciest home in the basement of Bond Hall. Now that the filters can collect all bandwidth stats and run our IDS, we have no use for this lowly pizza box.

Next time I’m down there I’ll take some pictures to post up here.

Mozilla donation

I donated my $10 (student rate) to the fund to put a full page add in the New York Times after Firefox 1.0 comes out. You should to. Sounds like extra money will be used for other publicity stuff involving the 1.0 release.

This looks like the coolest thing ever

If only mono wasn’t so platform unfriendly. Here’s a summary of my frustrations:

  • Wouldn’t work on FreeBSD for the longest time
  • Currently doesn’t work with linux with NPTL enabled glibc
  • Currently won’t read or write files that are stored on NFS shares

turns out, simple unix commands are awesome

I was cleaning up disk usage on some servers today, and removed a bunch of huge log files that were bloated from fall opening. I was later thinking that this might screw up tenshi. Turns out tail will follow the filename even as it gets cleared and started from scratch. Simple little thing that prevents you from having to restart your log monitor after every log file rotation.
